Jaylan Evans is an American actor from Greensboro, North Carolina, who has worked across several areas of performance. His professional résumé includes stage productions, animated voice acting, and television. His official biography describes him as an actor known for Power Book III: Raising Kanan, My Life with the Walter Boys, and Spirit Rangers.

For many viewers, his most recognizable role is Skylar Summerhill in My Life with the Walter Boys. The character is stylish, thoughtful, confident, academically driven, and closely connected to Grace and Jackie. Netflix describes Skylar as someone who hopes to become valedictorian and eventually work as a political journalist.

Evans’ career, however, did not begin with Netflix. His professional experience developed through theater and smaller screen opportunities before he reached a much larger international audience.

Jaylan Evans’ Early Life And Family

Jaylan Evans was born on February 3, 1999, in Greensboro, North Carolina. His professional biography identifies Greensboro as the place where he was born and raised, making North Carolina an important part of his personal and artistic background.

Evans is also one of five siblings. Although relatively little personal information about his family has been made public, his official biography highlights being part of a large sibling group as an important part of his background. His mother earned her PhD in 2023, another detail included in biographical material about the actor.

Rather than presenting unverified information about his private family life, it is more useful to focus on what is documented. His upbringing in Greensboro and his early exposure to performance eventually led him toward serious theatrical training and a professional career.

Jaylan Evans’ Education And Acting Training

Education has played a major role in Jaylan Evans’ development as a performer. He studied at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and later attended Elon University, where he pursued music theatre and earned his BFA. IMDb also identifies Weaver Academy, UNCSA, and Elon University among the institutions connected to his training.

His Elon University connection is particularly significant. Elon has highlighted Evans as one of its graduates who went on to build a career in television and entertainment. The university reported that Evans graduated in 2020 and subsequently began gaining professional experience in the industry.

This formal background helps explain the variety in his career. Instead of focusing exclusively on one type of acting, Evans developed skills in musical theatre, dramatic performance, screen acting, and voice work.

His Classical Acting Experience In London

One of the more distinctive parts of Jaylan Evans’ education was his opportunity to study classical acting in London. According to his official biography, he studied at Theatre Academy London through a study-abroad program founded by Florida State University.

That experience introduced him to a different theatrical environment and helped deepen his interest in the technical side of performance. During his time abroad, Evans earned certification in armed and unarmed stage combat through the British Academy of Dramatic Combat. His official biography says he achieved the highest adjudication honor, described as “distinguished.”

He also developed an interest in writing and storytelling. These experiences are valuable because they show that his preparation for acting involved more than memorizing dialogue. He was also learning movement, physical performance, classical technique, and the broader mechanics of storytelling.

Jaylan Evans’ Early Professional Acting Career

Jaylan Evans began working professionally while still in college. His official biography notes that he performed with organizations including Pacific Conservatory Theatre, Flatrock Playhouse, and Playhouse on Park.

This stage experience gave him an opportunity to apply his academic training in professional settings. For an actor, theater can be particularly valuable because it demands consistency, physical awareness, vocal control, and the ability to connect with an audience in real time.

After graduation, Evans began building credits in both stage and screen work. He originated the role of Skull in the world premiere of Punk Rock Girl!, a musical by Joe Iconis and Rob Rokicki. His career then expanded into animation and television, eventually leading to roles that introduced him to a much wider audience.

Jaylan Evans And Spirit Rangers

Before becoming widely recognized as Skylar, Jaylan Evans built important voice-acting experience through Netflix’s animated series Spirit Rangers. The series follows Native American siblings who secretly become Spirit Rangers and help protect the national park where they live.

Evans voiced Gem and Condor, among other characters. IMDb records him as appearing in multiple episodes across the series, while TV Guide lists additional voice roles credited to him, including Gem, Condor, Giant Blizzard Bunny, Male Wolf Spirit, Marcus’ Grandfather, and Monster Poppy.

The work is important to his career because voice acting requires a different approach from live-action performance. Without facial expressions, costumes, or physical sets communicating the scene, performers have to create personality largely through their voices. Evans’ work on Spirit Rangers demonstrates that his abilities extend beyond conventional television acting.

Jaylan Evans On Power Book III: Raising Kanan

Another important step in Jaylan Evans’ career was his appearance on Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan. His official biography identifies the series as one of the productions for which he is known, and Netflix’s biography for My Life with the Walter Boys also lists the series under his previous work.

The role helped establish his live-action television résumé before he became associated with My Life with the Walter Boys. His progression from stage work to animation and then television reflects the broad direction of his career.

For viewers discovering Evans through Netflix, Raising Kanan offers another opportunity to see his work in a different television environment.

Jaylan Evans As Skylar Summerhill

The role that brought Jaylan Evans his biggest audience is undoubtedly Skylar Summerhill in My Life with the Walter Boys. The Netflix series follows Jackie Howard, a teenager who moves to rural Colorado after a tragedy and begins adjusting to life with the large Walter family. Evans joined the ensemble as Skylar, a student at Silver Falls High School.

Skylar is presented as stylish, open, thoughtful, driven, and confident. He wants to become valedictorian and has ambitions of becoming a political journalist. He is also Grace’s best friend and quickly becomes part of Jackie’s social circle.

Evans has spoken about feeling an immediate connection with Skylar, particularly because the character was described as stylish. In an Elon University feature, Evans explained that his own appreciation for fashion helped the role feel natural to him.

Skylar’s Growing Story In The Series

Skylar became more than a background character as the series developed. Netflix’s Season 2 material explains that he becomes involved romantically with Nathan and faces complications when another student enters the picture. He also organizes a major Halloween party during the second season.

That development gave Evans more opportunities to explore Skylar’s personality and relationships. The character’s academic ambition, confidence, friendship with Grace, and connection with Nathan make him one of the more recognizable figures outside the central Walter family.

The role also carries personal significance for Evans. Elon University reported that, after the first season premiered, viewers from around the world contacted him and expressed appreciation for seeing a character like Skylar represented on screen.

Jaylan Evans In Season 3

Jaylan Evans continued playing Skylar in the third season of My Life with the Walter Boys, which premiered on Netflix on August 6, 2026. Netflix’s official Season 3 cast information confirms Evans’ return, while current cast listings continue to credit him as Skylar.

Netflix describes Skylar in the third season as stylish, thoughtful, confident, and ambitious. His friendship with Jackie and Grace remains part of his place in the story, while his relationship with Nathan continues to connect him to the wider Walter family narrative.

His continued presence across the series demonstrates how the character has grown from an introduction in the first season into an established part of the show’s ensemble.

What Makes Jaylan Evans Stand Out?

Jaylan Evans stands out because his career combines several forms of performance. He has theatrical training, experience in musical theatre, classical acting experience, stage-combat training, animation credits, and live-action television work.

That range gives him a broader foundation than simply being known for one Netflix role. His work in Spirit Rangers demonstrates vocal flexibility, while his stage background reflects traditional theatrical training. His role as Skylar allows him to bring those skills into a contemporary television drama.

Evans has also spoken about wanting to connect with people who may not have always seen themselves represented. His official biography describes representation and connection as important parts of his creative goals.

Jaylan Evans’ Interests And Personality

Beyond acting, Evans has developed interests in fashion, writing, stage combat, and storytelling. His comments about Skylar show that fashion is personally meaningful to him, while his London training helped strengthen his interest in combat for stage and screen.

He has also traveled internationally, including a visit to Banff, Canada, in 2022, according to the original biographical information provided for this profile.

These details offer a more rounded picture of Jaylan Evans. His career is not simply about appearing in front of a camera; it reflects an ongoing interest in different creative forms and the technical side of performance.

Jaylan Evans’ Career In 2026

By 2026, Jaylan Evans had moved well beyond the early stages of building a résumé. His continued role in My Life with the Walter Boys has given him a recurring international television platform, while his earlier work in Spirit Rangers and Power Book III: Raising Kanan shows the variety of projects that helped establish him.

The success of My Life with the Walter Boys also significantly increased the visibility of its cast. Elon University reported that the first season attracted more than 20 million viewers and reached Netflix’s Top 10 in 88 countries, giving Evans and his fellow actors a major international audience.

As his career develops, his combination of formal training and screen experience leaves him well positioned for opportunities in television, film, theater, and voice acting.

From Greensboro, North Carolina, to professional stages, London acting training, Netflix animation, and international television, his path has been shaped by education, persistence, and a willingness to explore different forms of performance.

His portrayal of Skylar Summerhill remains the defining role of his career so far. Yet his work on Spirit Rangers, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and the stage shows that his abilities extend well beyond one character.

With My Life with the Walter Boys continuing into its third season in 2026, Evans has an increasingly visible platform. His story is especially interesting because it shows how formal training, theater experience, voice work, and television can come together to create a versatile acting career.
